Mexico: Laws criminalising the right of access to information are incompatible with an open government

The General Law on Transparency has finally been approved in Mexico, and is undoubtedly at the forefront of similar legislation around the world. However it does not guarantee that the right of access to information will be effectively implemented as there have been numerous attempts by local governments to limit the flow of information. Azerbaijan: Speaking out against human rights situation ahead of European Games

We joined 14 other organisations in a joint letter as part of the Sport for Rights campaign, to the heads of the Swedish and German National Olympic Committees (NOCs) - thanking them for speaking out regarding the situation in Azerbaijan, and encouraging them to call for the release of the country's political prisoners. In May, we analysed the Law on Television and Radio Broadcasting for Kazakhstan for its compliance with international standards on freedom of expression. This analysis was prepared as part of an initiative led by our partner, the International Foundation for Protection of Freedom of Speech Adil Soz, to launch a campaign to develop a “Road Map for Advancing Media Legislation".
